What does ROCACOCO mean?

ROCACOCO stands for the Roman Catholic Consumers Cooperative. It is the only Catholic cooperative in the island of Bucas Grande in Socorro, Surigao del Norte. 

 

 

 

 

Where can we find ROCACOCO?

ROCACOCO is located in Brgy. Taruc, Socorro, Surigao del Norte. For easy description, you may ask any local where the Church of the Catholics is. 

 

 

 

 

Who is the owner of the ROCACOCO?

ROCACOCO is owned by its patron members and guided by the Board of Trustees. It is not owned by the Parish priest. As of 2014, there are more than 60 active members of ROCACOCO. 

 

 

 

 

What is the advocacy of ROCACOCO compared to other cooperatives?

By the name it carries, “Catholic”, the cooperative encourages and teaches the members to imbibe the Catholic teachings in the organization.  To be more particular is the live-out the Augustinian values shared by the spiritual director.

 

 

 

Why was ROCACOCO established?

ROCACOCO was established by the Augustinians to help the Catholics in Socorro, who can’t afford to buy over-priced goods. This organization shows the solidarity of Catholics despite being the minority in the municipality.

 

 

 

What does ROCACOCO do?

ROCACOCO is selling cheap goods to Catholics but also to the people of Socorro. School supplies are mostly sold in the cooperative store. 

 

 

 

 

 

What has been the impact of the cooperative after 4 years?

Other merchants and school supply stores have lowered the prices of their products. ROCACOCO is now a well-respected cooperative in Socorro. With the advocacy it is aiming for, the social standard in Socorro is slowly becoming just and righteous to the minds of the people. 

 

 

 

How does one become a member?

One must be Catholic resident of Socorro, Surigao del Norte. Second, he/she should apply for membership in the cooperative according the required rules and regulations.
